What is 4G LTE? What is the maximum speed ? 4G Speed in India

LTE, an abbreviation for Long-Term Evolution, commonly marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using a different radio interface together with core network improvements. The standard is developed by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) and is specified in its Release 8 document series, with minor enhancements described in Release 9.
LTE is the natural upgrade path for carriers with both GSM/UMTS networks and CDMA2000 networks. The different LTE frequencies and bands used in different countries will mean that only multi-band phones will be able to use LTE in all countries where it is supported.
Although marketed as a 4G wireless service, LTE (as specified in the 3GPP Release 8 and 9 document series) does not satisfy the technical requirements the 3GPP consortium has adopted for its new LTE-Advanced standard. The requirements were originally set forth by the ITU-R organization in its IMT-Advanced specification. However, due to marketing pressures and the significant advancements that WiMAX, HSPA+ and LTE bring to the original 3G technologies, ITU later decided that LTE together with the aforementioned technologies can be called 4G technologies.[3] The LTE Advanced standard formally satisfies the ITU-R requirements to be considered IMT-Advanced.[4] To differentiate LTE Advanced and WiMAX-Advanced from current 4G technologies, ITU has defined them as "True 4G"

Overview 4G LTE

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is a registered trademark owned by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) for the wireless data communications technology and a development of the GSM/UMTS standards. However other nations and companies do play an active role in the LTE project. The goal of LTE was to increase the capacity and speed of wireless data networks using new DSP (digital signal processing) techniques and modulations that were developed around the turn of the millennium. A further goal was the redesign and simplification of the network architecture to an IP-based system with significantly reduced transfer latency compared to the 3G architecture. The LTE wireless interface is incompatible with 2G and 3G networks, so that it must be operated on a separate radio spectrum.
LTE was first proposed by NTT DoCoMo of Japan in 2004, and studies on the new standard officially commenced in 2005.In May 2007, the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI) alliance was founded as a global collaboration between vendors and operators with the goal of verifying and promoting the new standard in order to ensure the global introduction of the technology as quickly as possible.[9][10] The LTE standard was finalized in December 2008, and the first publicly available LTE service was launched by TeliaSonera in Oslo and Stockholm on December 14, 2009 as a data connection with a USB modem. The LTE services were launched by major North American carriers as well, with the Samsung SCH-r900 being the world’s first LTE Mobile phone starting on September 21, 2010 and Samsung Galaxy Indulge being the world’s first LTE smartphone starting on February 10, 2011 both offered by MetroPCS and HTC ThunderBolt offered by Verizon starting on March 17 being the second LTE smartphone to be sold commercially. In Canada, Rogers Wireless was the first to launch LTE network on July 7, 2011 offering the Sierra Wireless AirCard® 313U USB mobile broadband modem, known as the "LTE Rocket™ stick" then followed closely by mobile devices from both HTC and Samsung.Initially, CDMA operators planned to upgrade to rival standards called UMB and WiMAX, but all the major CDMA operators (such as Verizon, Sprint and MetroPCS in the United States, Bell and Telus in Canada, au by KDDI in Japan, SK Telecom in South Korea and China Telecom/China Unicom in China) have announced that they intend to migrate to LTE after all. The evolution of LTE is LTE Advanced, which was standardized in March 2011.Services are expected to commence in 2013.
The LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of 300 Mbit/s, uplink peak rates of 75 Mbit/s and QoS provisions permitting a transfer latency of less than 5 ms in the radio access network. LTE has the ability to manage fast-moving mobiles and supports multi-cast and broadcast streams. LTE supports scalable carrier bandwidths, from 1.4 MHz to 20 MHz and supports both frequency division duplexing (FDD) and time-division duplexing (TDD). The IP-based network architecture, called the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) designed to replace the GPRS Core Network, supports seamless handovers for both voice and data to cell towers with older network technology such as GSM, UMTS and CDMA2000.The simpler architecture results in lower operating costs (for example, each E-UTRA cell will support up to four times the data and voice capacity supported by HSPA).

Browsing & Download Speed Results

Web pages open up very quickly and sometimes even faster than a normal broadband connection (2Mbps). It was able to watch full HD (1080p) videos on YouTube and Vimeo without waiting for the buffering. However the 12Mbps speed provided by Airtel is still not sufficient for seamless 4K playback on YouTube. You have to be a little bit patient if you want to stream the Ultra HD videos from YouTube.

-No lag while using different apps like Gmail, Yahoo, whatsapp, viber etc.
-Sync with all mail services including corp was fast
-If you are looking for good 3G network connectivity and android eco system experience this is ideal.

Few quirks are:
-Only SIM1 supports 3G, while SIM2 is only 2G.
-Doesn't support ALL GSM band but that's not a issue as long as phone is used in India. Only band used in US ans other countries are not supprted.
-If you are very particular about camera or music output this is a deal breaker and need to look elsewhere. But that's fine with me as I'm looking for good internet connectivity.
-Phone wasn't able to connect to Microsoft virtual WIFI hotspot for whatever reason but had no issues in connecting to a real WiFi (CISCO router).

Storage and Battery
The Micromax Canvas HD A116 has a ROM of 4 GB and an inbuilt memory of 1.77 GB which can be extended up to 32 GB with a microSD card; the phone has ample space for all your media requirements and packs a 2000 mAh battery as well.

Pros:

1) The IPS screen display, 5.0 inch - 720p - ~294 ppi, is very crisp and very sharp. Everything looks crystal clear. Viewing angles are great too. Screen display is easily readable even under sunlight.
2) The 1.2 GHZ quad-core processor makes the phone run very smoothly. You may not experience  any lag on this phone. As a result of this processor, even HD games run at best quality smoothly. Antutu benchmark rating is in the 12k range, which is lower than the high end quad core phones, like the S3 and One X, but higher than much more expensive phones, like the Note and S2. In the same test, the Grand scores in the 6k region.
3) The screen size, 5.0 inches, might put off some people before buying.  I find this 5.0 inch screen is comfortable to use. It's surprisingly light too.
4) People might complain about the quality, but the feel of the plastic is really good, and even though I've accidentally dropped my phone many times, there isn't even a mark on the body. So far, as per experience, the build quality is really very good.
5) The camera flash strength is above expected, and the phone supports HDR image capturing. The 1080p and 720p videos shot with my the phone are of good quality. Yes, this phone also shoots full HD videos (although the description says it shoots only upto 720p) at 1920x1088 resolution, in the right settings. I guess even the people at Micromax don't know the capabilities of their phone :P
6) The touchscreen is perfect, very responsive. Detects upto 5 fingers (not that anyone needs 5 fingers on their screen though).
7) The battery of the phone performs above expectations, I get 8 hours and more when using the phone with Wi-Fi and Dual Sim.
8) Micromax gives the stock Jellybean 4.1.2 with this phone. I prefer this over Samsung's TouchWiz, although that is only a personal opinion. The user interface is clean, easy to use and butter smooth. Google Now, which is only available in Android 4.1 and above, is an awesome feature that beats even Apple's Siri.
10) The phone looks absolutely stunning. It looks like an Galaxy S3 from the front, and a One X from the back.

Cons:

1) The display's contrast is a bit low, but that could be just my phone. Though, that does not compromise the screen content quality, everything is still crystal clear.
2) The 8 MP primary camera, is of bad quality. It has autofocus and an LED flash, but the 8 MP photos are grainy, and not very clear when zoomed into. It's better 5 MP or 6 MP smartphone cameras, but it's quality is below than most 8 MP smartphone cameras. A friend's Micromax A110 Canvas 2, which too has an 8 MP camera, shoots better and brighter photos.
3) Audio quality isn't good when earphones are connected to it. Only the earphones that come with the packaging give good quality, but these earphones aren't good. Connecting the phone to a speaker system, though, doesn't give any problems. Music quality using a bluetooth headset, too, is clear and perfect. The in-built equalizer in the stock music app really helps too.

A word about the service quality of Micromax, appalling. I haven't had any problems with my phone, but I have experienced their lack of skill and professionalism when I wanted to upgrade my phone to the latest Jellybean. Most service centres didn't know anything about the new update, and one service centre here in Kolkata returned my phone after three days, without updating, and did a factory reset. The phone is an excellent gadget, but the company and the people in the service branch are just bad. Their service is the main reason I would not be buying another Micromax ever.

As this is a phone, I must add that call quality and networking on this phone are absolutely perfect, and I have experienced no issues so far.

The preloaded apps that come with the phone, a cricket game, Micromax store etc., cannot be removed without rooting, but they can be disabled, and they don't seem to take up much space, so it isn't an issue.

Overall, I would recommend that unless you're very brand conscious (in which case, it's your loss), or a heavy gamer who wants all the latest games installed, this would be the most perfect phone released in India for this price. But, only buy if the price is around or below 14k.

This review is based on a personal experience on using this phone, and all opinions are my own, and may vary from person to person.
I hope this review helps you in purchasing a new phone. :)
